Jamdani is a discontinuous weft technique of weaving, and can be defined as the art of fine 'Parsi Gara' done on the loom. In Jamdani, motifs are inlaid into the fabric by adding a denser thread to fine warp threads by hand. Designs range from the "butidar" (wherein the entire sari is dispersed with florals), the "tercha" (diagonally striped florals), or "jhalar" (a network of floral motifs).
