Deep red, checked throughout
A saturated red carrying a fine check across the full width of the body, with gold and a deep brown holding the edges.
The design
The check is small and close, built from fine intersecting threads that give the red a texture rather than a pattern you read from across a room. Broad rectangular borders in golden zari frame it, and the pallu finishes in tassels. The bugdi border reads the same on both faces.
How it is woven
Handwoven on a pit loom in Maheshwar, Khargone district, Madhya Pradesh, with the weft inserted by hand and the checks set on a dobby across body, border and pallu.
