Description +

Deep red, orange at the pallu

A solid deep red body carrying small flower buti, with one end of the drape turning to a clear, shimmering orange.

The design

Flower buti sit sparsely across the red, small enough to read as texture. The orange pallu is banded symmetrically in gold and carries medium buti between the bands. A golden zari border with a geometric pattern runs the length of both edges. The bugdi border is woven so that its design reads the same on both faces.

How it is woven

Woven by master weaver Aafreen and the master-weaver households of Mominpura, Maheshwar, on a pit loom with the weft inserted by hand.

Craft & Story +

Master weaver Aafreen and the master-weaver households of Mominpura weave these pieces in Maheshwar, on pit looms, with the weft inserted by hand.

Red is what the town is asked for most, and it is the shade that exposes a weaver's hand fastest. The buti have to sit evenly across the whole body before the orange of the pallu arrives, banded in gold and symmetrical from edge to edge.

The border is bugdi, woven so that its design reads the same on both faces.

Off the loom the saree weighs almost nothing, drapes soft and holds its pleats through a long evening. Where the weave runs slightly uneven, that is the hand.

FAQ +
1. What is the colour combination here?
A deep red body with small flower buti, an orange pallu banded in gold with larger buti, and a golden geometric zari border along both edges.

2. What comes in the set, and how long is the saree?
An unstitched Maheshwari silk drape measuring 6.3-6.5 m in total length and 45-46 inches wide, weighing 350-360 g at 44-46 GSM. The total length includes an attached, unstitched blouse piece of 80-90 cm in a contrast orange, which is included in the stated price. Fall, pico and edge finishing are not done before dispatch, but we will do them on request.

3. Who wove this saree?
It is handwoven on a pit loom, with the weft inserted by hand and the patterning on body, border and pallu set on a dobby. It comes from the master-weaver households of Mominpura, in Maheshwar, Khargone district, Madhya Pradesh. The Handloom Mark is held with the registration on record, and every piece is checked before it leaves us. Nothing we sell is machine-woven.

4. What does bugdi mean?
Bugdi describes the woven border design, which reads the same on both faces of the border. It is a feature you can turn over in your hand and see for yourself.

5. What is a flower buti?
Buti is the small woven motif scattered across a saree, worked into the cloth on the loom rather than printed or embroidered on afterwards. A flower buti is that motif in a floral shape. Here they are scattered across the red body and repeated at a larger scale between the gold bands of the orange pallu.

6. How sheer is the body?
The body is semi-sheer, which is what gives the saree its weight of 350-360 g and its 44-46 GSM. Wear it with a petticoat in a matching or complementary shade. The same lightness is why it drapes softly and holds its pleats through a long evening.

7. How close is the delivered shade to the images?
Every handloom saree is individually woven by skilled artisans. Slight variations in weave, texture, and colour are natural characteristics of handcrafted textiles and reflect the authenticity of genuine artisan craftsmanship. Colours may vary slightly between screens and in natural light If the shade does not match or you are unhappy with the quality, we will exchange the piece.

8. What is the care routine for this saree?
Dry clean only. Air-dry in shade without wringing, iron inside out on low to medium heat under a cotton press cloth, then store the saree wrapped in breathable cotton or muslin in a cool dark cupboard, refolding it every three to six months. Home washing is not recommended.

9. Can I wear this to a wedding?
Yes, as a guest at a wedding or reception. It also suits festival and festive dressing, formal and ethnic occasions and party wear.

10. What is your return and exchange window?
Returns and exchanges are accepted within two days, provided the piece is unused, with its tags intact and in its original packaging. Exchange is also offered where the colour does not match or you are dissatisfied with the quality.

11. How soon is this dispatched, and do you ship worldwide?
The saree is dispatched from stock, not made to order: about half of orders leave the same or next day and most within two to three days, with delivery in three to seven days for most orders in India. Shipping within India is free, cash on delivery is available, and we ship worldwide with international charges billed on actuals.
