The process begins with ethically sourced goat leather, treated to become as translucent as parchment. The artist then uses traditional bamboo pens to hand-paint the intricate flowers using natural vegetal dyes. Cleaning: Wipe gently with a dry, soft cloth. Never use water or damp cloth as leather absorbs moisture and can lose its shape.
Placement: Keep away from direct sunlight to prevent the hand-painted natural dyes from fading.
Bulb: Use LED bulbs only to ensure the leather remains cool and safe.
Handmade Note: Since this lamp is hand-painted by a master artisan, you may notice unique variations in the floral detailing or color strokes. These are not defects but the beautiful evidence of genuine handcrafted art.
The raw materials used are Goat hide and sheepskin and the colours used are derived from vegetables dyes. Creating small holes inside the decorative patterns enhances the attraction of the items, which is done using a pogaru (chisel). The painted piece is dried in sunlight over two to three days. Hindu epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata inspire artisans to create these beautiful items in a wide range of shapes, sizes and utility varying from paintings to lamp shades or puppets as a vibrant and unique work of art to liven up a wall or a corner. Lampshades are created using a mould and most of them are based on mythological figures.
