Description +

Mustard, with a dark olive pallu

A mustard yellow body scattered with repeating flower buti, split cleanly against a dark olive green pallu.

The design

Sparse floral buti across the mustard, worked in gold so they catch the light as the drape moves. The olive green pallu carries the same motif larger and denser. A double design zari border, two parallel patterns, runs the length of both edges. The bugdi border is woven so that its design reads the same on both faces.

How it is woven

Woven in Mominpura, the weaving quarter of Maheshwar, on a pit loom with the weft inserted by hand and the buti set on a dobby.

What you receive

  • Unstitched Maheshwari silk saree, 6.3-6.5 m in total length including an attached, unstitched blouse piece of 80-90 cm, included in the stated price

  • Width 45-46 inches

  • 350-360 g at 44-46 GSM, measured in-house

  • Semi-sheer body; wear with a petticoat

  • Woven in Maheshwar, Khargone district, Madhya Pradesh; country of origin India

  • Net quantity: one saree with attached blouse piece

  • Pallu kuchu, selvedge and edges finished; every piece checked before dispatch

  • Fall, pico and edge finishing available on request

Care and storage

  1. Dry clean only, by a professional cleaner

  2. Air-dry in shade, without wringing

  3. Iron inside out on low to medium heat, under a cotton press cloth

  4. Store wrapped in breathable cotton or muslin, in a cool dark cupboard

  5. Refold every three to six months so the same folds do not settle in

Colour fast on both wash and rub testing, on every colour. Cared for this way, the saree is expected to last and to be passed on.

Colour

Every handloom saree is individually woven by skilled artisans. Slight variations in weave, texture, and colour are natural characteristics of handcrafted textiles and reflect the authenticity of genuine artisan craftsmanship. Colours may vary slightly between screens and in natural light

Dispatch

Held in stock rather than made to order. About half of orders leave the same or next day, most within two to three days, and most orders within India are delivered in three to seven days.

Craft & Story +

Maheshwar is a small town on the Narmada in Khargone district, Madhya Pradesh, and its looms are pits in the floors of ordinary rooms.

Colour-blocking a saree on a handloom means committing early. The mustard body has to be woven the whole way, buti spaced by hand and worked in gold, before the dark olive green of the pallu can start.

The border is bugdi, woven so its design reads the same on both faces, and it is a double design: two parallel patterns down the edge rather than one.

The cloth is featherlight, semi-sheer and quick to pleat. Its small irregularities are the mark of a hand and not a defect in a finished piece.

FAQ +
1. How is the colour split arranged?
The mustard body runs the length of the saree and the dark olive green begins at the pallu, with the golden double design border running along both edges of the drape.

2. What exactly arrives, and what are the measurements?
An unstitched Maheshwari silk drape measuring 6.3-6.5 m in total length and 45-46 inches wide, weighing 350-360 g at 44-46 GSM. The total length includes an attached, unstitched blouse piece of 80-90 cm, which is included in the stated price. Fall, pico and edge finishing are not done before dispatch, but we will do them on request.

3. How can I tell this is not a powerloom piece?
It is handwoven on a pit loom, with the weft inserted by hand and the patterning on body, border and pallu set on a dobby. It is woven in Mominpura, Maheshwar, Khargone district, Madhya Pradesh, and the Handloom Mark is held with the registration on record. The Handloom Mark is held with the registration on record, and every piece is checked before it leaves us. Nothing we sell is machine-woven.

4. What does bugdi mean?
Bugdi describes the woven border design, which reads the same on both faces of the border. It is a feature you can turn over in your hand and see for yourself.

5. What is a flower buti?
Buti is the small woven motif scattered across a saree, worked into the cloth on the loom rather than printed or embroidered on afterwards. A flower buti is that motif in a floral shape. On this piece they are sparse and gold-worked on the mustard body, and denser on the olive green pallu.

6. Is the fabric see-through, and what do I wear under it?
The body is semi-sheer, which is what gives the saree its weight of 350-360 g and its 44-46 GSM. Wear it with a petticoat in a matching or complementary shade. The same lightness is why it drapes softly and holds its pleats through a long evening.

7. Will the colour I receive match the photograph?
Every handloom saree is individually woven by skilled artisans. Slight variations in weave, texture, and colour are natural characteristics of handcrafted textiles and reflect the authenticity of genuine artisan craftsmanship. Colours may vary slightly between screens and in natural light If the shade does not match or you are unhappy with the quality, we will exchange the piece.

8. How should I clean and store it?
Dry clean only. Air-dry in shade without wringing, iron inside out on low to medium heat under a cotton press cloth, then store the saree wrapped in breathable cotton or muslin in a cool dark cupboard, refolding it every three to six months. Home washing is not recommended.

9. Is this suitable for daytime events?
Yes. It suits lighter daytime occasions, festival and festive wear, formal and ethnic events, party wear, and weddings or receptions attended as a guest.

10. What is your return and exchange window?
Returns and exchanges are accepted within two days, provided the piece is unused, with its tags intact and in its original packaging. Exchange is also offered where the colour does not match or you are dissatisfied with the quality.

11. When will it ship, and do you deliver outside India?
The saree is dispatched from stock, not made to order: about half of orders leave the same or next day and most within two to three days, with delivery in three to seven days for most orders in India. Shipping within India is free, cash on delivery is available, and we ship worldwide with international charges billed on actuals.
