The print

Botanical shapes alternate with small geometric forms in an even all-over repeat on the top. The dupatta takes a quieter route: one continuous decorative band runs along its length before giving way to a stretch of plain orange, so there is somewhere for the eye to rest.

Wearing it

Orange with off-white is a daytime combination - festive mornings, office days in autumn, a lunch invitation. Silver or brass jewellery works better than gold here. The mix of katan silk, real hand block printing and Bhagalpur origin is close to absent elsewhere at this price point. Block printed by hand, and still dispatched the next working day.

Run a hand along the band on the dupatta and you will feel where one impression met the next. That join is the hand, and it is meant to be there.

Off-white on orange leaves nowhere to hide - every impression shows. In Bhagalpur the printer inks a hand-carved block, sets it down, lifts it clean and moves on, and any hesitation is written straight into the fabric. The long band on the dupatta is the exercise in patience: a narrow block walked the full length of the piece, each landing judged against the last by eye alone.

1. Does this fabric need a lining or aster?
No. The silk is opaque, so a kurta can be stitched without a lining. Some people add one anyway to give the garment more body, but it is entirely optional.

2. Will the off-white pick up colour from the orange in the wash?
No. The fabric is colour-fast and does not bleed on the first wash. Dry clean it once first, then a gentle cold hand wash is enough.

3. How can I be sure the print is hand done?
Each motif is pressed with a hand-carved wooden block, so the depth of colour and the spacing shift slightly across the length and the decorative band shows small joins where impressions meet. A screen or machine print shows none of that.

4. What does the set contain?
A top of 2.5 m at 44-45 inches wide, a bottom of 2.5 m at 44-45 inches wide and a dupatta of 2.5 m at 35-36 inches wide, unstitched, so it can be tailored up to 4XL with a customised length.

5. What if the shade is not what I expected?
Screens vary, so a shade can look a little different in person. If the colour or the quality is not what you hoped for, you can exchange it.
