The print

A geometric band is where hand printing shows most honestly - the repeat breathes, and the corners are set by eye rather than by machine.

Straight lines are the hardest thing to print by hand. The geometric bands on this length were laid in Bhagalpur with a narrow carved block walked end to end, each impression butted against the last by eye, and the printer keeps one hand on the fabric to hold it true. No. The fabric is colour-fast and does not bleed on the first wash. Dry clean it the first time, then a gentle cold hand wash keeps both colours clean.
