Description +

Turquoise sprigs repeat over maroon, closed by angular geometric bands.

  • Turquoise on maroon is a jewel pairing, not the safe tonal contrast most maroon sets use.

  • Geometric key-style bands finish the ends, so the length arrives with its borders built in.

  • Opaque silk at 600-650 g for the three pieces - deep in colour, light to wear.

The print

Small stylised botanical motifs run in a steady all-over repeat across the maroon, with touches of yellow and dark blue picked out inside them. The ends are closed by linear geometric bands in a repeating key pattern, which gives the set a clean architectural finish rather than a floral one.

Wearing it

Maroon is the reliable festive and formal shade, and the turquoise stops it looking heavy - good for evening functions, and equally at home on a formal office day with the bottom kept plain. Use the geometric bands as the kurta hem. Genuine hand block printing on katan silk from Bhagalpur is unusual: the craft is normally sold on cotton, and katan normally arrives woven. Block printed by hand, and still dispatched the next working day.

The details

  • Top: 2.5 m, 44-45 inches wide

  • Bottom: 2.5 m, 44-45 inches wide

  • Dupatta: 2.5 m, 35-36 inches wide

  • Fabric: Katan silk, opaque, no lining needed

  • Craft: hand block print, Bhagalpur

  • Weight: 600-650 g for all three pieces together

  • Stitching: up to 4XL, length customisable

  • Care: dry clean the first wash, then gentle cold hand wash

A geometric band is where hand printing shows most honestly - the repeat breathes, and the corners are set by eye rather than by machine.

Craft & Story +

Straight lines are the hardest thing to print by hand. The geometric bands on this length were laid in Bhagalpur with a narrow carved block walked end to end, each impression butted against the last by eye, and the printer keeps one hand on the fabric to hold it true. The botanical sprigs in between are quicker work, but they too are pressed one at a time, which is why the maroon field never repeats with perfect regularity.

FAQ +
1. Will the turquoise bleed into the maroon on the first wash?
No. The fabric is colour-fast and does not bleed on the first wash. Dry clean it the first time, then a gentle cold hand wash keeps both colours clean.

2. How should the geometric bands be used when stitching?
They work best as a finished border - most tailors place them at the kurta hem or on the sleeve edge rather than cutting through the pattern.

3. Does the fabric need a lining?
No. The silk is opaque and can be stitched as it is. A lining is optional if you want a heavier fall to the kurta.

4. What size can this be stitched to?
Up to 4XL for a straight kurta set. Each piece is 2.5 metres long, the top and bottom 44-45 inches wide, and the length can be customised for a longer silhouette.

5. What if the shade is not what I expected?
Screens vary, so a shade can look a little different in person. If the colour or the quality is not what you hoped for, you can exchange it.
