Every circular motif was stamped individually, so their spacing varies slightly along the band.

There is no straight edge to align against, so the artisan judges each impression by the last, keeping the circles marching evenly down a border that runs the full length of the dupatta. The teal and gold bands on this maroon silk were printed that way in Bhagalpur, by hand, with carved wooden blocks.
