The two prints

The top is a dense all-over repeat of small white flowers on red. The dupatta deliberately breaks that rhythm: a vertical geometric border runs along one side and a wider decorative hem closes the end, leaving plenty of plain red between them. Worn together, the contrast is what stops a red set from reading as one solid block of colour.

Wearing it

Red with white reads festive without going bridal, so it carries a puja, a day wedding or a family lunch equally well. Keep the bottom plain red and let the dupatta border sit forward on the shoulder. Real hand block printing on katan silk is unusual - the craft is normally sold on cotton, and katan is normally sold woven. Block printed by hand, and still dispatched the next working day.

The geometric border will not be pixel-straight for its whole run. It is placed block by block by hand, and the slight wander is the proof.

Two sets of blocks made this length in Bhagalpur: a small floral for the field and a long, narrow geometric block for the dupatta border. The border is the harder job - each impression has to meet the last exactly, and the printer walks the length judging every landing by eye. A carved wooden block wears slowly with use, so the pattern it leaves is never quite identical from one end of the fabric to the other.

Is the dupatta printed the same as the top?
No, and that is deliberate. The top is a dense all-over floral repeat, while the dupatta keeps most of its red open, with a vertical geometric border along one side and a wider decorative band at the hem.

Will the red bleed into the white flowers when washed?
No. The fabric is colour-fast and does not bleed on the first wash. Dry clean it once first, then wash gently in cold water.

Can this be stitched for a plus size?
Yes. Each piece is 2.5 metres long, with the top and bottom 44-45 inches wide, which is enough to stitch a straight kurta set up to 4XL. The length can also be customised for a longer silhouette.

How do I care for it after the first wash?
Dry clean the first wash, then a gentle cold hand wash at home is fine. Dry it in shade and iron on the reverse to protect the print.

What if the shade is not what I expected?
Screens vary, so a shade can look a little different in person. If the colour or the quality is not what you hoped for, you can exchange it.
