The contrast

A warm peach-orange top is edged in dark blue and answered by a dark blue dupatta, both carrying a repeating circular geometric motif picked out in gold and yellow. Vertical bands run down the dupatta and keep the two colours in conversation rather than in competition.

Styling

This is the set to wear when you want to be seen: festive daytime, a formal lunch, or an office day that ends somewhere else. Gold jewellery suits the yellow in the motif, and asking your tailor to carry the blue border onto the sleeve ends ties the whole outfit together.

Because every impression is stamped by hand, small shifts in the print are part of the piece, not a fault in it.

Printing two colourways to sit together takes planning long before the first block lands, since the border on the top has to answer the dupatta. In Bhagalpur the circular motif block is stamped in gold and yellow across both the peach and the dark blue Katan silk. Every impression is placed by hand, so the small shifts where two blocks meet are the artisan's signature rather than a fault.

1. Is the dupatta matching or contrast?
Contrast. The top is peach with a dark blue border, and the dupatta is dark blue with vertical patterned bands, so the two answer each other rather than match.
